Outback Steakhouse History
Outback Steakhouse is a popular chain of American casual dining restaurants with over 1200 locations in 22 countries throughout the United States, South America, Australia, Asia and Europe. Founded in 1988, the restaurant chain is currently operated in the United States by OSI Restaurant Partners, and by other franchise partners at international level. Outback Steakhouse is well known for its full-flavored steaks that are seasoned in a seventeen spice blend, as well as other American cuisine.
Outback Steakhouse Founders
Four good friends working in the restaurants came together in 1988 and founded the Outback Steakhouse. They were Trudy Cooper, Tim Gannon, Bob Basham and Chris Sullivan. Their main aim was to provide a casual dining experience resembling the Australian style. They wanted to provide dishes that were fresh, reasonably priced and at the same time having good quality. The most famous dishes of Outback Steakhouse are Bloomin Onion and Outback Special Sirloin.
The creation of Bloomin Onion
About twenty years ago, the Bloomin Onion was created by Tim Gannon, one of the co-founders of Outback. He was deeply inspired by the cookbooks of Japan and wanted to prepare vegetable dishes in various designs mainly floral. The Bloomin Onion dish is fresh Onion cut and dipped in to batter with a strong flavor comprising of seventeen spices. After plenty of research, the Bloomin Onions got their present shape.
Outback Steakhouse early days
The first Outback restaurant was opened in the year 1988 at Tampa, Florida. The founders of Outback struggled in their early days and success did not come very easily. They only sold two Bloomin Onions on the first day, but they were not disheartened. They continued with their special dish and unique concept of food. They promoted their dish at all the local events and radio stations. Those criticizing the dish were taken aback at the great taste and started pouring lavish praises. The public at large took notice of all these comments and started visiting the Outback Steakhouse.
Outback Steakhouse Success
The Outback restaurants have sold millions and millions of Bloomin Onions while retaining the original flavor. Outback Steakhouse celebrated its twentieth birthday in March amidst celebrations, appreciations and worldwide sales of its delicious Bloomin Onions. Among all the steak restaurants, Outback restaurant has bagged the number one position every year.
